Because it’s nearly D Day for entries into the Business Achievers Awards (BAA Closing for Submissions this Thursday!) we felt that we had to send another reason/reminder to enter during this of all weeks. To be honest we were stumped to come up with new reasons. We’ve already covered strategy, publicity, peer review, networking, PR, family and investors, financing. We even threw in ego.
Inspired by the public service pay talks!
Then we heard the media hullabaloo around the ending of the negotiations on public pay reform in the South. Union leaders, politicians, commentators, all were at pains to tell us how hard the public sector works and the great job it does. We can’t really argue with any of that. Maybe it’s true.
A pregnant pause?
What’s striking in all the hullabaloo, though, is the profound silence of the private sector. It’s not a judgmental silence. It’s just silence. We don’t have any spokespeople saying how much we’ve sacrificed; how hard we’ve worked; how we’ve had to overcome challenges to our very existence…
And the punchline…
And then we came up with another reason to enter business competitions.
They’re an opportunity to bask in the sun for once and be told how great we are; how vital we are to the economy; how hard we work…to be congratulated for still being here!
There’s nothing wrong with that is there?
