or the first time in over 116 years, the Balmoral Show has packed its bags and moved to a new venue, Balmoral Park, Maze Long Kesh, Lisburn.
Organisers are encouraging the large crowds of people expected to attend Balmoral Show to consider how they will travel to Balmoral Park.
RUAS Chief Executive, Colin McDonald says, “Balmoral Show is a celebration of all that is good about agriculture and food. We look forward to welcoming thousands of visitors through the doors for this historic event. Leave plenty of time for your journey and as with any major event be prepared for potential delays. We would also ask visitors to consider using public transport if possible and to follow the directions of the PSNI. Non Show traffic should try to avoid the area when possible during Show hours.”
Echoing his sentiments, Inspector Rosie Leech from the PSNI’s Roads Policing Unit appealed to motorists to use public transport wherever possible or park only in the designated locations if they had to bring their vehicles. “Traffic Attendants supported by police will not hesitate to issue Fixed Penalty Notices to anybody parked illegally or ignoring parking restrictions in front of homes or businesses. You are really much better off using public transport.”
“In any case, we would ask motorists to allow plenty of time for their journey to and from the venue. Bear in mind that the M1 Motorway at Balmoral is usually extremely busy all day during an event such as the Balmoral Show so use an alternative route if you can. Also, try to avoid arriving or leaving during the morning or evening rush hour when traffic is at its peak everywhere,” Inspector Leech added.
Visitors travelling from the West should take the M1 to Junction 9 where they will be directed to travel along the A3 Moira Road towards Lisburn and follow directional signage.
Traffic from the North West should travel down the A26 and along the A3 Moira Road towards Lisburn. Lisburn traffic should take the Moira Road out of Lisburn while those travelling from Belfast and the North East should travel South on the M1, coming off at Sprucefield and follow directional signage to Balmoral Park. All traffic from the South should travel up the A1 dual carriageway and follow directional signage.”
