In these past entrant profiles, we take a look at businesses that have previously entered the Business Achievers Awards and ask them a few questions about their businesses, stand out moments and words of advice they would like share with others. In this post we’re talking to Bombay Pantry.
Tell us a little bit about your business what you do, the benefits of your product/service and what makes you unique to the competition.
Bombay Pantry is the leading Indian food to go specialists in Ireland. Through a network of 7 Bombay Pantry outlets and retail sales in the multiple chilled convenience sector, they are the largest Independent Indian food chain in Ireland.
All food is hand-made and only 100% natural fresh ingredients are used, all ingredients are sourced locally and Irish where possible.
All recipes are unique and drawn on from their 15 classically trained Indian chefs. It is their passion about food quality, consistency and provenance of ingredients that has led them to be multi-award winning, with Great Taste Awards for the past 3 years running.
What are the stand-out moments or highlights to date?
Stand out moment this year was being recognised by Musgrave and SuperValu as Best Newcomer Producer for 2012.
This is great recognition from such an esteemed retailers whose ethos of sourcing locally and Irish has helped so many small Irish food producers succeed.
2012 lows would be consumer confidence dip pre-budget and the constant fight with landlords over exorbitant rents, making it increasingly challenging to be on a level playing field with new market entrants.
If you could share an insight or top tip for SME’s / Emerging Entrepreneurs what would it be?
Don’t give up! If you have a great idea that you passionately believe in, go for it. And remember to tap into the local Enterprise Boards/Enterprise Ireland/Bord Bia as they are a wealth of information and so helpful to small business.
