Business Achievers Breaks Records

A record number of entries were submitted for this years Business Achievers Awards. A total of 572! Unfortunately the closing date for entries has now passed. The competition is a celebration of everything that is great about business on the island. We have awards that respond to the vibrancy of new companies and the innovation in the economy. We also have awards that celebrate the traditional strengths that the island has competing in global markets.

Women Led Business Category

Nearly a third of entries were for the Women Led Business category which is new for the awards this year. Through Business Women Can we are committed to boosting female entrepreneurship on the Island and I am delighted to see the success of this category. Our ambassadors are out there talking to businesses driven by female entrepreneurs and obviously encouraging them to showcase their companies through the awards. Great showing!

Social Enterprise

Nearly 10% of entries are for social enterprises. The third sector has as much and sometimes more entrepreneurial flare than any other sector and is proving it again and again by their success at Business Achievers. We should all take great pride in their work.

The National Finals

It was my first Business Achievers award ceremony last year and Nicola Byrne and I took to the stage to celebrate the inspiration that was in the room that evening. Mansion House in Dublin is a great venue, steeped in history and when it’s full of such talent it’s a great place to be. We were joined by the RBS Chief Executive, Stephen Hester who had a great night talking to the best of our small businesses. This year will be fantastic as well, and I can’t wait to see who will be the winners at the end of May.

Best of luck to everyone.
