Business support; Knowledge Transfer Ireland

I had the pleasure of meeting Alison Campbell yesterday. The CEO of the newly launched Knowledge Transfer Ireland. The first of its kind in the world. An interesting initiative and something SMEs should take note off. If you have worked with universities, you realise that fantastic research is going on there. And that nobody knows about it. It is a source of ideas, innovation and what is underestimated particularly; a source of contacts. The eco systems of universities is fantastic, particularly abroad. As a small business you should get aware of what univestities are doing in your area. And you will be suprised.

Some interesting facts:

  • 1st in Europe for Knowledge Transfer in Public Research Organisations
  • 10th in the Global Innovation Index 2013
  • €782 Million Higher Education Expenditure on R&D in 2013
  • 122 Licence Agreements in 2013
  • €42 Millon Invested to Support Technology Transfer
  • 435 New Inventions Disclosed

Knowledge Transfer Ireland takes a national perspective on the knowledge transfer system in Ireland. It works with business, investors, universities, Institutes of Technology, State research organisations, research funders and government agencies to maximise State funded technology, ideas and expertise getting into the hands of business to drive innovation. For the first time you have a full overview of all research that is going on in Ireland. Not only that. There are guides and templates that will help you engage with universities.
