I am actually in the process of setting just such a system up, with your permission, I will forward all the documentation and descriptions to you on your e-mail, rather than through smallbusiness, as I have found it difficult to add attachments on this before.
First things, you need to know which bank you are with, some banks have their own Merchant Services divisions, (AIB, Bank of Ireland, Ulster), some do not (Ir Permanent).
But even if they do not, they will have an arrangement to access the Merchant Services of another bank, eg Irish Permanent use AIB.
