Effective Time Management

With businesses dramatically changing, the pressure of multi tasking for all levels of staff has hit an all time high. Some are responding well while others are feeling the pressure and feeling undervalued and underappreciated. For managers who are feeling this and not willing to adjust, this is the end of the road for them as things are not going to change any time soon.

There was a time when we had too many staff and at times not enough work for them, as things started to deplete we didn’t understand how to deal with it so we let go many staff, unsuccessfully managed ridiculously high payroll and stuck our heads in the sand hoping it would end soon. However it is time to start a fresh, realise that things aren’t going to change so we need to know how to best manage it.

Our working day is revolved around achieving results for that day, that week, month, year etc. How we prioritise items will greatly depend on the final outcome of success.

Effective Time Management

To paraphrase Peter Drucker, ‘Effective people are not problem-minded people; they are opportunity minded’.

But it’s often not just about us as managers but also our staff. Remember with staff you can’t just think efficiency, think effectiveness with people and efficiency with things.

Frustration is a function of our expectations and our expectations are often a reflection of the social mirror rather than our own values and priorities. (7 habits of highly effective people)

Delegation is a huge issue with managers. You cannot run the whole show by yourself. What if you are sick tomorrow? Do you really want to see all your hard work going down the pan because you have not dedicate a little time to train and develop your team?

Delegate time = efficiency

Many managers tell me it is quicker to do the job themselves rather than delegate. Then they know the job is done right.

Delegate to other people = effectiveness
