International Business Women Conference

The International Business Women Conference started today with a flourish. Held in an excellent venue, showcasing great speakers and presenting a wonderful opportunity to meet exciting new people, the opening night of the conference drew together many capable women from all business sectors – all motivated to generate and perpetuate change within our economy. #creatinganeweconomy

The evening began at The Mac with networking opportunities over canap├ęs and wine. A backdrop of live vocals from a fantastic local female artist created a relaxing vibe in the room. Kate Marshall, Chair of WIBNI opened the event by welcoming guests then outlining her aim that the conference be the best ever conference on the island of Ireland.

Ellvena Graham, Head of Ulster Bank NI followed the opening by discussing the global coverage that Northern Ireland has achieved this week and how the International Conference will showcase the city as being “progressive and entrepreneurial”.

Be inspired but also have fun and enjoy

She went on to highlight that if as many women as men set up in business in Northern Ireland we would have an additional 28,000 entrepreneurs! Ellvena ended her speech by asking delegates to “engage, learn, be inspired but also to have fun and enjoy”. The speeches finished with Gillian Mitchell, Director of Programmes for The Mac. She discussed the success of The Mac and stated that this was largely due to the fact that 75% of the board are female! much to the enjoyment of the audience.

She finished by reiterating how delighted The Mac were to be supporting the conference and asked that delegated enjoy the event to the full. Looking forward to full day of the conference tomorrow with some exciting speakers including Carla Busazi (editor in chief of the Huffington Post) and the lovely Anita Sands (board member of Symantec) the latter we met this evening. The evening will finish with a food and drink networking evening hosted by The Lord Mayor, Mairtin O’Muilleoir.
