A group of students from St Clare’s Comprehensive School in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim, have scooped the top prize at the Student Enterprise Awards with their product, Squeazy.
The Squeazy is a unique toy targeting primary schools but suitable for all ages. Strongly packaged and with an impactful marketing campaign around the characters Drip and Drop, the Squeazy is based on the simple science of pressure and water. Using the concept of Cartesian divers (demonstrating the principle of buoyancy and the ideal gas law), the aim of the game is to squeeze the bottle, trying to catch Drop (with a hook) and Drip (with a loop).
The Squeazy has also proven a useful tool for physiotherapists with a local clinic using the product as an alternative to the stress ball, repairing wrist and hand injuries.
The company has sold over 1,000 Squeazy units and has recently developed a partnership with the O2 in Dublin, sourcing an important element of their manufacturing from the venue.
The Squeazy toy is based on a scientific experiment called the Cartesian Diver, with the company developing a strong brand around their Drip and Drop characters. The bright colours and eye catching packaging make the product stand out and appeal to children, adults and industries such as physiotherapy.
