Unas Pies was founded in 2010 by Una Martin. Prior to launching Unas Pies Una studied in UCC and graduated with a Masters in Urban Planning and Sustainable Development, but the timing was all wrong, the tiger had left the country. Una Went on a whirlwind trip around the country and discovered the beloved pie on her travels. The time off re-ignited her passion for food which is strong in her family, she comes from a long line of great cooks. Her grandmother had been a home economics teacher and passed on some family favourites which influence all of the recipes for Unas Pies.
Returning home with this new idea Una tried her pie creations at a local Country Market in Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry. The pies went down a treat and Unas Pies were soon to be found in Midleton, Mahon and Douglas Farmers Markets in Cork. Devoted pie addicts tried and tested many a creation and the Unas Pies addition began.
In Oct 2011 Unas Pies won Artisan Producer of the year at the Blas Na hEireann awards, Irelands Irish Food Awards along with Gold, Silver and Bronze in the pie and quiche category. This win was a great boost to the profile of the business and over the next year the business grew from strength to strength.
In Oct 2012 for the second year in a row Unas Pies scooped up the Gold, Silver and Bronze in the pie and quiche category at the Blas Na hEireann awards again along with Best in Farmers Market and most notable the overall Supreme Champion 2012. 2012 also was the year that Unas Pies made it into the coveted Bridgestone Guide.
Original and Unique
Each and every one of Unas Pies is original and unique. They contain only fresh natural ingredients with 100% traceable Irish Beef and Chicken with many of the ingredients sourced locally.
Unas Pies remains a family run business, making all the products from a production unit in cork where Una Personally overseas the making and baking of them all.
