As we sit in Dublin Airport – waiting for our flight to Bristol to join the finalists of The Pitch 2013, we cannot help but reflect on the past years and how we have managed to get to this point. We have often seen start up competitions and pitching events – applying for many of them – even The Pitch in previous years – but have never gotten to this point before.
It makes us all think that a few things are critical to getting to this point.
Our Team – instead of a team of 1, we are now 3 – adding more skills, experiences and ability to actually cover more ground faster.
Our concept – actually something that solves a real problem for a market, that has potential to be successful.
Hard knocks – or experience. Each member of the team have had some good and bad experiences in work and self employment in the past years – giving us the skills and knowhow to better stay on the road this time around.
Our lesson and we sit and review our USP and time our pitch – we realise that no matter what, keep trying – searching and perfecting.
From this event we have been invited to talk at a CyberBully Conference in Limerick on the 27th of September. http://www.seankelly.eu/news-and-events/110-mep-kelly-to-host-cyber-bullying-forum-in-limerick-september-2013
We have also managed to book our first presentation stand at a school conference between 30th Sept – 3rd October. We will have a chance to present our software to school principals and educators.
In our team we have myself, a principal who retired in December and was given an MBE for his Services to Education in 2010 and Macartan who is sales/marketing. We have 2 main websites – www.nobullying.com and www.xraydata.com ( our social and then product site ). We have built a system that monitors children online in key social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and ASK.fm – its available for schools and individual parents. We aim to continue to develop the product to offer much more protection on social networks and the internet itself. Basically our system tracks children’s accounts and reviews their posts. If it spots potentially negative sentiment it is passed to human moderation and then an alert is emailed to a parent.
We actually did some pre-launch work in Dubai to see the reaction to what we are doing was – it was very positive.
Fingers crossed we can bring something home to Ireland from this event! Time to go find our plane!
So if anyone has any last minute Pitching advice – it will be greatly received. Don’t forget to tweet out at #thepitch13
