The 3rd IDA/Ulster Bank “Meet Your Neighbours” Networking Event took place in Ulster Bank on George’s Quay on Thursday evening, 16th October 2014. The event was another huge success, driven by the strong attendance of c. 100 people from 50 different companies. The theme for the evening was “A Ghoulish Gathering” which added to the relaxed and somewhat festive atmosphere. There was a real buzz in the room as each of these young vibrant companies mingled, networked and exchanged ideas, in an informal setting with some food and music.
The IDA Emerging Business Division
This event is an IDA initiative, which Ulster Bank was delighted to host, and it is a testament to the tremendous work of the IDA Emerging Business Division. The IDA has successfully supported a large number of companies with their expansion into Ireland and many of these companies are based in Dublin, particularly around the Docklands area. This event gives these companies an opportunity to get to know each other and make some new contacts in Dublin. It was also an opportunity for the companies to promote what their business is about and share ideas.
Companies that attended on the night included, Nitro, Datahug, SNP Communications, Google and FindTheBest – many of whom were wearing their company t-shirts with pride.
At the outset, Stephen Masterson (Director, Ulster Bank Corporate Banking) welcomed everyone on behalf of Ulster Bank and highlighted the great work the IDA does in promoting Ireland as a place to do business as well as supporting companies as they develop their business in Ireland.
Barry O’Dowd (Head of the Emerging Business Division in the IDA) then took over as MC for the evening. Barry’s Emerging Business team were also in attendance, including Aimee Williams, Kathleen Bohan, Patrick Gaule, Kevin Carroll and Jayne Wyatt.
There were four speakers at the event, each giving an overview of their business offering:
- Orla Moran, European Sales Manager at New Relic ,
- John O’Keeffe, VP EMEA at Nitro PDF
- Kyle Fretwell, International Product Management at FindTheBest
- Linos Owusu-Asare, Content Partnerships at Udemy.
They highlighted what has driven their market success to date and also, what attracted their companies to Ireland. All had very interesting and exciting stories to tell, and each business clearly has a very successful future ahead.
Following a raffle for some rugby tickets to the Ireland V Georgia game, the remainder of the evening was spent enjoying the good company and music.
This event has gathered great momentum since its inception in February 2014. Ulster Bank was delighted to work alongside the IDA to successfully unite Dublin’s international business community as they ”met their neighbours”.
