The annual Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility awards took place on Thursday last, 12th September, in the Burlington Hotel.
Ulster Bank’s BusinessWomenCan (BWC) programme was one of three UB nominees and it came home winner in its category of ‘Excellence in Marketplace’ on the night. BWC is a programme which aims to support female entrepreneurs by building local connectivity with like minded business women and strategic partners within communities. Equally, it aims to connect female entrepreneurs virtually through the use of various online and social media platforms.
The BWC programme currently includes seventeen internal Ulster Bank Ambassadors who have completed an accredited training programme to support and understand the challenges of female entrepreneurs. Additionally we are supported by several external Ambassadors who are experienced business people from the SME community, who are at hand to offer guidance to others given their own first hand experiences and challenges. This programme would not be what it is to date without the support of the external Ambassadors – we are very grateful for their participation in their already stretched schedules.
This programme went to market at the end of last October and phase two is about to launch. We will be increasing the footprint of internal Ambassadors across the island of Ireland to forty and will be on the search for additional External Ambassadors to lend support to female led businesses across our communities.
