Don’t know if you or readers of this blog can help? A lot of start ups bring in original ‘co owners/founders’ giving equity as payment. As the business grows, these co owners/founders may not be suitable to stay with the business. Yet when they leave they still ‘own’ part of the business. Is there any mechanism where this equity can be given as options ie recognising their ownership as long at they are with the business…but having to give up a large part of this ownership if they leave the business. I know this exists for later hires but can this ne set up for founders?

There is. You can agree leaving clauses in the share holders agreement, which stipulate these terms. Share options are also an option. Will put this up oon the forum as a question.

Really interesting article. A brand is definitely the best investment that you can make. If you can create a distinct picture, name or logo this can differentiate you from the competition and create a distinct image in the mind of the consumer. The simpler a brand can be defined the better.
